Driftless Gifted

ABOUT THIS COMMUNITY

Families with gifted or twice-exceptional (2e) kids living in the greater "Driftless" region of Southwest Wisconsin, Southeast Minnesota, and Northeast Iowa now have a network!

Established by a local parent in 2020, "Driftless Gifted" ("DG2e") helps families in our area to connect and share knowledge and resources. There are no membership dues, and no obligations.

We're a community of families only – just for families, by families.

Q: Can we join?
- Is your kid confirmed as gifted (or do you have pretty good reason to believe they are)?
- Do you live in, or at least kinda near, the Driftless Region?
If you answered yes to both, please join our community!

This Group is neurodiversity-affirming, and self-selecting.
It is not elitist or exclusionary.

(For visitors who are unaware: Giftedness is a neurological difference in wiring which often brings along with it a plethora of challenges: behavioral, social, emotional, and otherwise. Giftedness does not automatically equate to "high performance" - nor vice-versa. See more on that here.)

At Driftless Gifted, we are well aware of the unique challenges our kids face in finding camaraderie amongst the general population and are here to throw out the net far and wide in order to find support, create community, and build bridges.

WHERE WE LIVE AND GET TOGETHER

The (northern) Driftless Region of Southwest Wisconsin, Southeast Minnesota, and Northeast Iowa: A geographical corridor (of beautiful topography!) running roughly an hour's drive east/west of the Mississippi River Valley and roughly two hours' drive north/south of La Crosse, WI.

We also welcome families from outlying regions who have interest in traveling here to attend our events!

OUR CODE NAME:
We call ourselves "DG2e". It's actually short for "Driftless Gifted and Twice-Exceptional", but rolls off the tongue better, sounds more fun (like a secret mission... or a robot model?!) ... and allows us to refer to our Group without using that offputting "G-word" that so many of us prefer to avoid!

A NOTE TO PROFESSIONALS AND EDUCATORS:
Professionals and educators working with the gifted are kindly informed that "Driftless Gifted" is a community of families only, as the intent is for families to feel comfortable that there is a certain level of anonymity and privacy within the Group.

However, please feel free to contact info@driftlessgifted.com if you or your organization would like to request that a notice be issued within our Group on your behalf, or if you would like your gifted-friendly resource to be included on this website (see Resources page). You can also request to be added to our external mailing list, to keep on top of any public notifications we may have.

HOW TO JOIN

There are two ways to become part of our community. We recommend doing both, but you also can choose just one:

1. Join through Facebook Group:
Join the "Driftless Gifted" Group on Facebook. It serves as a platform for this community to grow, interact, plan events, advocate, and thrive. The group is designated as "private" (for families only), so only those who "join" can see posts, or can see who else is a member. And to help protect everyone's privacy, you'll need to answer a couple of (non-intrusive) questions and agree to the rules and privacy policy in order to get admitted.

2. Join through Email:
Send an email with ADD ME in the subject line to info@driftlessgifted.com. We'll then add you privately to our community email list, which we do not share with anyone, and will send you back a message with the next steps on how to get connected. (Please be sure to add the above email address to your "safe senders" list!)
